I’m starting a new series called “The Feminine Archetypes” on my channel this Fall. 🌩️🪽🌸💫 It’s an idea I came up with during one of my recent insomnia spells— 4 videos, 4 archetypes. We’ll be going through essence, aesthetics, flaws, and my personal interpretations as well. We’re beginning with the Queen of course: “Elegant Femininity” 🦢🏹🩰 !! Only 30ish minutes too, so I’m proud. I restrained my overly ponderous side. Enjoy! 🪽🌷🍊

I ran out to capture the full moon the other night, rushing through forest and trees, only to find it hidden behind dark cloud by the time I arrived. While waiting for it to reappear, I found myself gazing at what some may call silver linings, whispering and radiating from behind that dark cloud, echoing the voice of the sun. In truth, I’ve only ever noticed silver linings screaming behind daytime storm clouds and gray morning skies. But I suppose now that even in dark night, silver linings whisper the echo of daylight. And by the time such thoughts had crossed my small mind, the cloud had blown by and the moon had returned, and there was no need for silver linings anymore.

My month of two three year olds! They wanted to be tucked in and then asked me to go away so they could discuss things by themselves LOL. 🥲🙏😆 I can’t imagine life without them. Sending encouragement to all my friends and followers who are experiencing closely-spaced pregnancies: maybe it wasn’t the plan, but trust and believe that it will all make sense someday! I am so grateful that life happened this way and I wouldn’t change a single thing. They’re definitely not twins, but they absolutely have a closer bond than most siblings and it’s so special. Love my babies so much. Can’t believe that soon I will have a four year old! Yay!

I’ve always admired soft gentle queens like Sleeping Beauty or Flora from Winx, but yet, try as I might, I’ve always been too extroverted and opinionated to fully embody those girls. And that’s not a bad thing! I think I’m a blend of two types from my video, leaning into the ambitious people-loving aura of Barbie or Rapunzel, but I also have a bit of an attitude and resistance to fully pleasing others like Emma, Amy March, and Stella from Winx. Instead of fighting this though, I wanted to analyze why this is and how we can all embrace who we naturally are. Xo

Our first successful All-American family Road trip! 🇺🇸🏞️🚗💨☀️🏔️

So we decided to go to the Smoky Mountains because of Dig’n Zone for the boys, but it snowballed into something so much more. We had a ton of “firsts” for the boys, and even some firsts for myself!
.
.
- first waterpark! (I don’t have pics but it was so cute.) Lots of water slides for toddlers at @soakymountain. I loved the lazy river and the chicken tenders were crazily the best food I had on the whole vacation lol??? The boys adored this day 🛝🌊⛱️
- First caves: we went to Mammoth Caves National Park in Kentucky and did the “Domes and Dripstones Tour” and the “Historic Tour.” Our tourguide was Ranger Ed! Both were doable with decent fitness and a front toddler carrier. I used @ergobaby and Grant used @babytula . Each hike was 2-3 miles. 🌌🔦📸
- Bobsledding on @obermountain . This was so unplanned. We just wanted to take a tram ride and ended up seeing rescue bears and otters before taking a chairlift and finding out that if your kid can walk, they allow you to go bobsledding with them! It was the highlight of our trip. ⛰️🚠🦦🐻
- first time operating heavy equipment. @dignzone was a blast for the kids. I now can say I know how to use a skid loader, a steamroller, and a mini excavator. My kids will be hireable for lawn jobs in probably ten years, so keep us in mind. 😂🚜👷🏼‍♀️🔨
- first hike where we actually got to the waterfall LOL. If you watched my Hawaii vlog, we weren’t able to get down because the slope was too treacherous. This hike was “Baskin River Trail” and we didn’t read the elevation beforehand and let me tell you… I was gasping for air after! 1000 vertical down and back up, but we did it in the minimum amount of time of two hours, INCLUDING our time enjoying the waterfall. Everyone was a trooper and I loved it. 🗺️🥾

In general, I think a good southern vacation is always a fun idea, and I’ve learned to not underestimate these smaller destinations! Traveling with toddlers is seriously a blast and I’m so happy we’ve gotten to the point as a family where we can leave the house for awhile and explore together. So happy.

I once had a follower wonder why we always seem to travel within the US. She complained that Americans never leave their country and implied we were close-minded or ignorant for this. That comment stuck with me because truthfully, I am VERY interested in seeing more of the world. So is my husband! We met on a study abroad through our University and have always had the travel bug. But international travel has not really been in the cards for our family yet.

I think a big reason we explore the US is because I’m not from here 🙈. I’m still seeing all these things for the first time and learning just how much this country has to offer. Since getting married, I’ve visited Colorado, Utah, Texas, South Carolina, NYC, Hawaii, Tennessee, and Nebraska, all for the first time. I think it’s easy for people who aren’t from here to not realize how enormous this country is and how logistically complicated it is to go to other countries, versus exploring other states. Just to get to Tennessee, we had a 10hr road trip, and it was only 4 states away!

Every time I go on a domestic vacation, I find myself shocked at just how beautiful and fun some of these locations are. I had no idea how incredible the Smoky Mountains would be, and now I can’t wait to return someday with the boys. I guess what I’ve learned from my limited travel in the States is to just enjoy and explore with an open mind and don’t underestimate what can be really fun for a trip! Hopefully someday we make our way across the pond or to Japan or somewhere very exciting, but until then, I’m going to continue enjoying the USA!

The blooms are such a reminder of God’s beautiful design in this world. Cataloguing my favourite tree blossoms every year feels like an anchor: no matter how the year unfolded, the blooms will always appear.

Hoopi Falls trail in Kauai was gorgeous and absolutely somewhere I want to return. The boys rode on our backs the entire time even though we never really did babywearing. We picked up a dog to walk with too and some short-lived rainstorms that the boys thought were amazing. I highly recommend traveling with toddlers, which is something I never thought I’d say 🙈🌴🐠

My vision for this room was for it to be a “morning room.” It faces East, so I knew it would be flooded with morning light, and I decided to go all out with yellow, gold, and white. I adore southern and coastal decor from 2005-2009, and heavily relied upon old issues of “Traditional Home” to inform my decisions. I tried to layer the textures and design elements to keep the eye traveling around the space without feeling overstimulated. I take my morning coffee in here, and we’ve hosted friends for tea or after-dinner decaf, and it’s been LOVELY.

If you swipe to the end, you can see what we started with! We tore out the vinyl plank flooring because we had real hardwood in the other areas of the house, and a soft carpet made more sense. I am such a big fan of carpet, I think it’s so cozy and practical for family life. I hope it makes a solid comeback!

You can also see the fans and barn doors we removed. There was a ceiling fan in almost every room, and Grant removed them and replaced them with the chandeliers of my dreams! It was so fun picking this shell semi-flush mount out. The boys called it “the spider” LOL. I was hoping for a floral-inspired feature 🙈
.
.
As far as the barn doors, they can be so nice, but as you can see, they don’t match my preppy grandmotherly style. The mix of French doors with barn doors was almost comical to me. It felt good to remove them and really open up the space while returning this home to her natural 90’s roots.

I go into detail as to all of the furniture and decor pieces in my recent house tour video, and I have links on my Amazon storefront as well for some of the items, but a lot of the furniture was inherited and the decor has been thrifted. I am so grateful for a place to display my grandfather’s beautiful collection in its full glory, and I hope I did it justice.
